Agora virá a pior parte:

- E aquilo? O que é?

A moça responde:

- É um modem.

E ele:

- Para que serve?

Ela:

- Para acessar a Internet!

Ele:

Chamam o meu nome.

Saludos!

So I looked down at my iPhone lastnight, and lo and behold, Fort Wayne has 3G now! I must warn you, this post exposes me for the true nerd that I am.

The iPhone3G will connect to the Internet one of three ways - through a local wireless network, through the cell phone network (known as EDGE), or through the latest 3G network. It defaults to the fastest available, which would be Wi-Fi. If you're not near a wireless hub, it switches over to one of the cell networks. Up until lastnight, that cell network in Fort Wayne was just EDGE. Now it's 3G, which is way faster, almost as fast as Wi-Fi.

Okay, I'm done "nerding out" for a while. My fellow nerds would understand. Looking down at my phone lastnight and seeing the cute little "3G" in the top lefthand corner made my little techy heart happy. So I took a snapshot:

Yah, seperti kata Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) di film Iron Man (2008), liburan udah berakhir. Kembali kerja dan beraktivitas seperti biasa. Tapi sebelumnya, sesuai tradisi Lebaran, gua pingin ngucapin

Selamat Idul Fitri, Mohon Maaf Lahir dan Batin!

Kalaupun kita belum pernah ketemu, mungkin aja kan gua pernah mepet mobil pembaca di jalan tanpa sadar, atau semacamnya? Hehe.

Waha, bagus deh, berarti udah ngerasa kaya saudara dekat..

Hal baru yang gua kerjain selama liburan malah jauh dari suasana Idul Fitri: main game online. Bukan MMORPG, tapi Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare versi PlayStation 3.

As velocidades eram 256k, 512k e 728k.

Customized phones are popular in the pre-pay market.

“iPhone is not the only choice,” Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile, declared to the media shortly after it was heard that an iPhone will be introduced into mainland China by China Mobile in November.

On September 26, a day before the Davos Forum opened in Tianjin,China Mobile, jointly with Samsung, announced the launch of the Samsung i908E on the Chinese market. This type of cell phone, into which China Mobile’s many services will be installed, was first issued globally in July as Apple iPhone’s most direct rival.

Xu Da, head of marketing for China Mobile, said customization would become a model for China Mobile’s cooperation with more cell phone makers in future.

Apple’s product aims for the 3G market, and over one million 3G version iPhones were sold within three days of its issue. Although the iPhone has not been officially released on the Chinese market, at least 0.4 million have entered the Chinese market illegally, a demonstration of Chinese consumers’ interest in the product.

Chinese operators have not yet decided to let Chinese users buy Apple iPhones through legal channels and enjoy all the fun.

Apart from a lack of a model for cooperation and profit allocation between China Mobile and Apple, another concern comes from 3G and Wi-Fi function.

China Mobile wants Apple to make an iPhone specifically for the Chinese market, cancelling the 3G and Wi-Fi functions in this product, because the TD-SCDMA network, built by China Mobile, is not compatible with the other two types of 3G networks, WCDMA and CDMA2000. China Mobile doesn’t want to introduce a type of iPhone which is compatible with WCDMA network, lest users decrypt this type of iPhone and transfer to China Unicom or China Telecom’s network. The 0.4 million iPhones already in China are decrypted units.

Some analysts believe iPhone is not China Mobile’s ideal business partner anyway. Not long ago, iPhone appeared on a China Unicom on-line poster for 3G network.

Other 3G phones may also become iPhone rivals in the Chinese market. China Mobile, as the only Chinese operator of the Android alliance, has contacted Google, and may introduce Google’s android cell phone G1 to the Chinese market by the end of the year.

Wang Jianzhou said in June this year that the biggest obstacle for its cooperation with Apple had been removed. But now it seems things have changed. China Mobile’s competition with China Unicom is ongoing, and Google, Samsung, and Apple will compete in China’s 3G market.

The only uncertainty is that China Mobile’s negotiation with Apple is continuing. Every one still has chance.

I held off buying an iPhone 3G, partly because I really like my N95 but mainly because the iPhone lacked a few features I use like video calling, MMS etc. The 5800 MusicXpress is the latest challenger so here’s the first look:

What’s good about the Nokia 5800?
- GPS, Bluetooth 2.0
- Flash 9 built in to web browsing (yeahhhhh!)
- Video Calling, VGA res 30fps
- 640x360 screen
- MMS
- TV out
- 3.2 Mp camera with dual flash Carl Zeiss
- Touch screen (but does not look as good as iPhone
- Accelerometer (for switching landscape / portrait modes)
- Weight (109g)
- Price (est 279 Euros)
- All you can eat music downloads coming soon (here)

What’s Bad
- Can’t see any multi-touch in use.
- Nokia just don’t get UI as well as ‘others’ do. It’s still clunky.
- No transitions (moving between any content causes page refresh).
- Fonts + Menus still too big! (This phone has great resolution but Nokia just made everything bigger Argh! Nokia… please – when browsing contacts some of us want the option to not have to scroll through 500 pages of contacts when we could simply see more on one page).

Accelerometer Game on the Nokia 5800:

Verdict:
Q: Should I buy a Nokia 5800 instead of an iPhone 3G?
A: If you want heaps of features then it’s a YES. If you are obsessed with having an eye-candy interface then it’s a NO.

Research In Motion Inc.'s Blackberry Curve and Blackberry Pearl were the second- and third-best selling smartphones in the U.S. between June and August, while Palm Inc.'s Centro placed fourth, according to NPD's "iPhone 3G Report."

The average price of a smartphone sold between June and August was $174, down 26 percent from $236 during the same period last year, NPD Group (Port Washington, N.Y.) said.

"The launch of the lower-priced iPhone 3G was a boon to overall consumer smartphone sales," said Ross Rubin, director of industry analysis for the NPD Group, in a statement. "While the original iPhone also helped win customers for AT&T, the faster network speeds of the iPhone 3G has proven more appealing to customers that already had access to a 3G network."

Thirty percent of U.S. consumers who purchased the iPhone 3G from June through August 2008 switched from other mobile carriers to join AT&T, the exclusive mobile carrier for the iPhone in the U.S., according to the "iPhone 3G Report." Nearly half (47 percent) of new AT&T iPhone customers that switched carriers switched from Verizon Wireless, while 24 percent switched from T-Mobile and 19 percent switched from Sprint, according to the report.
